Kitchen: Updating the kitchen will had instant value to a house. Some updates for kitchen are a new counter top, new cabinets, new appliances and ceramic flooring. There are many choices to consider when adding value to the kitchen. The counter top is one that can provide an instant impact. Over the last few years, granite counter tops have been used by many kitchen re modelers and many new homes include granite counter tops in the base price. Adding more closet spaces or extending existing closet will make this room appealing.  Sometimes it may not be possible to add more closet space because of constraint, however sometimes re-arranging and removing items will create more space.


-Interior : Nothing brightens a house like a fresh coat of paint. Keep the color neutral. If working with a limited budget, paint the main living areas. 

- Finished basement: Finishing a basement creates more living space and this adds value to a house. Finishing the basement does not have to break the bank. It can be done in economical way to create more space without spending lots of money. Consider doing the finished basement only if fund is available after the other areas of the house has been updated.  The kitchen, bathroom and painting update should be done before considering finishing basement. These areas add more value that finishing the basement.Though finished basement do increase overall home value if all other areas are not dated.


- Exterior: The exterior door can make a great impact on a potential buyer. You could simply apply a fresh color or a replace it with a more decorative door. If replacing your front door, go for an Energy Star certified front door with decorative glass accents and sidelights. The price for this upgrade can range from $200 to $800. Finally, add some potted plants around the front door, or on the porch. Use decorative planters of various sizes, shapes and color. Planting flowerbeds along the driveways and walkways is also an attractive idea.

The annual festival of light in Upper Marlboro has opened in Watkins Regional Park in Upper Marlboro. This will be the 28th year for the popular festival of light visitors will enjoy beautiful array of lights display that spans 2.5 mile. This year will feature new lime green and pink LED lights ,according to the program director for the event the entire light will feature more than 1.5 million lights.

The Park opens daily with lights shinning brightly for visitors to enjoy during this holiday season.  The entry fee is $5 per the park is also asking visitors to bring canned food to donate to local food pantry.

Best time to enjoy the array of light is when is dark. Cash only is accepted for fee.

Sign and own home event for first time home buyers in Prince Georges county! The state of Maryland and the housing authority of Prince George's county just announced a new program called “Maryland Mortgage Program Triple Play". This program will make available up to $20,000 for down payment and closing cost, a discount of 0.25% on the interest rate. Finally, a tax credit for up to $2,000 annually on the home buyer’s federal income taxes for the life of the loan is also made available.
It is estimated that about 500 families will benefit from this new program, meaning the funds are very limited and once the fund is gone, the program will likely close.

This program is for home buyers that have not owned a home in the last 3 years, are able to qualify for a mortgage loan. However, buyers buying in target zip codes don't have to be first time buyers, but their current home has to be sold before closing on their new home.

This is a great program that will allow first time buyers to get into homes for less than they pay for rent. This program started accepting application in November. To get started, home buyers will need to contact a lender that participates in this program. Also, the potential buyers need to attend home buyer class. Many homes in the county qualify for this program. Some of the targeted zips codes are homes for sale in 20744,20772, 20774, 20746,20706, 20747,29784,20737,20785,20786,20743.

This program is great for home sellers that are thinking of selling their home. Currently, the inventory is low and buyers will start looking at homes once they apply for this program. Sellers can take advantage of this program by getting their house ready with just a few updates that appeal to buyers.

The City of Bowie Tree Lighting Ceremony at Belair Mansion Bowie

The annual tree lighting ceremony is once again coming up this Sunday December 7th 2014  at BelairMansion located at 12207 Tulip Grove Drive in Bowie. This free event will include caroling and a visit by Santa Claus on a fire truck. The program begins at noon with self guided tours, live 18th & 19th century music, and the tree lightning ceremony  at 7pm. 

At this time of the year the Belair  Mansion is decorated with Christmas theme items, and will be  open throughout December for visitors. In addition to the lovely music and decorations, visitors on Sunday will be serve light refreshments.

There is no fee for this event, however the city of Bowie is asking visitors to bring a non-perishable food item to benefit the Bowie Food Pantry.

Insider Tips:
Arrive Early!!: To enjoy this event arrive  early to experience the 18th & 19th century music and walk around the mansion before it gets crowded.

This event is one  of many that the City of Bowie have annually which  makes this city unique and attractive to  home buyers.
